The burn...

On Kendrick park, 20 miles N/W of Flagstaff.

Caused by a drone crashing, eventually covering

approx' 335 acres, it was contained by 30 firefighters.

Saving surrounding properties, including a church.

Oh, Frank. This is a disaster and people don't realize what they are doing with those stupid drones. Nice toys but they don't think about the consequences if things go wrong.
That burnt tree with the lone bird says enough.
Frank L Croston.: It could have been a lot worse, Astrid...The last time we drove past grasses were showing through so hopefully things will recover.
I do love this comp, though, Frank!
Frank L Croston.: Thanks for turning around, Ell'...And the bird stayed!
Things definitely will recover, Frank, but it does break the heart to hear about and see such things. (sigh)
Frank L Croston.: Oh they will, Ginnie, fortunately it was just grassland, only an occasional tree, still a shame though.

Good heavens!

Hopefully things will soon recover Frank..
Frank L Croston.: They probably will, Chris, there weren't many trees in the burn area.
Impressionnant ce que le feu peut faire !!!!
Frank L Croston.: Awesome and frightening, Claudine.

That tree is like a flagstaff Frank.
Frank L Croston.: I see what you did there, Andrew...smile
The ability of plants to regenerate is amazing. Before long we will have Amazon orders delivered by drone....not a prospect to be relished
Frank L Croston.: I suspect when Amazon starts that ridiculous idea that 'dronejacking' will be the next growth industry, especially in some places I could think of....:-(
I guess, to some people, drones are good fun until something goes wrong, this was very wrong. Nature soon seems to recover from such things.
Frank L Croston.: Nature does recover, but not that quickly, Brian. In the meantime you get things like mudslides destroying property and taking lives as there are no trees and vegetation to stop them.

When we have a burn like this (happens often when winter is in the offing) you will find birds of prey, like this one, inspecting the ground for cooked dishes like hare, tortoise, rats, etc. The little and slow folk are always the victims.

Great composition for showing the effect of such a fire.
Frank L Croston.: I didn't think of that, Louis, indeed they are. Thank you.

What a shame, such wanton destruction.
Frank L Croston.: Isn't it just, I hope they are pleased.
I came to visit after seeing Elizabeth's post today. The smoky atmosphere is compelling. I like how you included the bird as a sign of life in the desolation.
Frank L Croston.: Thanks for taking a look, and for your comments.
Is this from this year already? In Canada they can become very serious.
Frank L Croston.: Just a few weeks ago, Mary. They certainly can.
I think drones should simply be banned!
Frank L Croston.: There is a case for strict regulation, Tom, insurance included.

in Singapore if you talk about drones, people tend to assume they are the ones with a camera mounted and they think of unusual vantage points, Frank. this is the effect of a lethal one.
Frank L Croston.: I don't know what kind it was, Ayush, but it certainly caused some damage, and but for the efforts of the firefighters it would have done a lot more for sure.
What an idiotic way to start a fire...
Frank L Croston.: Crazy, Larry.
