Grave stone

In the graveyard of St Oswald's church Grasmere Cumbria U.K. Not far from William Wordsworth's grave. I couldn't  read this, I just liked what it had become over the years, natures art.

Well observed Frank, these lichens just love gravestones
Frank L Croston.: They are remarkable things, Chris, thank you.
I love the patina created by nature Frank.
Sacred to the men or youth mes Atkinson who died October 1914 ??? Aged 24 years ??? The daughter etc...I give up now.
Frank L Croston.: I didn't even try, Andrew, I just liked the patina.
The only way to read them easily is with a charcoal rubbing. It is beautiful and hard on the stone over the years.
Frank L Croston.: Do people still do that, Mary ?
What a fine collection of lichen has grown over the years.
Frank L Croston.: It was most attractive, Brian.
Quite often the lettering just weathers away, especially in exposed graveyards,in this case the stone is just maturing with an overlay of lichen.
Frank L Croston.: It is quite a sheltered graveyard, Martin, it's certainly maturing...
Oh THIS is what you were taking! This is really beautiful - good eye, Frank!! I have no idea what tit says.. I've tried. Next time we're there, we'll take some paper and do a rubbing!
Frank L Croston.: Might not be a good idea, Ell', we'd probably get told off for defacing it.
A striking image...
Frank L Croston.: Thank you, Larry.
I'm Lichen this picture....sorry it has been a long day with the grandchildren!
Frank L Croston.: That is no excuse...But having used it myself in the past, I'll let you off....This time.
