photoblog image Grey Heron

Grey Heron

A few shots of Herons this week, there is the largest breeding colony in the North West of England on my regular walk around Stanley park, it's been fun watching, and photographing them this year, though I missed more shots than I got.... this one is a bit of a ragamuffin...

I have noticed that the Herons are looking really tatty lately, Frank. How nice to catch a picture of one actually doing something. I love your picture. I find Herons quite hard to photograph, not because they won't keep still, but somehow there patterning never comes out quite right for me
Frank L Croston.: Most of ours have been quite smart. well I'm making up for my failures in Dragonflies by taking Herons, I hope you like the rest of them.
I love that word, 'ragamuffin,' Frank. But I love this image even more. smile
Frank L Croston.: Me too, Ginnie, great word! Thank you.

Raggamuffin must have lost his/her oil can. Great detail on the bird.
Frank L Croston.: Looks that way, Louis, thank you.
What the heck did this fellow get into, a wind tunnel or vortex. He looks hung over too.
Frank L Croston.: I think he must have been in the water, Mary.
WE very rarely see Herons round where I live, that are such magnificent birds.
Frank L Croston.: As I said Brian, they nest on an island in the lake here, I'v counted over twenty before now.
Makes a great image, though, Frank!
Frank L Croston.: Thank you, Tom.

What a great shot - looks like it is having a bit of a bad feather day.
Frank L Croston.: I think he'd had a wash and couldn't do a thing with himself, Anne...smile
He looks a bit of a tramp
Frank L Croston.: Rather a Heronist comment that Mr Phillips...smile
