photoblog image Seven up!

Seven up!

One for all you rail fans...I spotted this ( Elizabeths not interested, strangely...) on the way back from Winslow, ( the standin' on the corner one...you know? ) to Flagstaff, four loco's is not unusual, even five...But seven!!  Great !

Each of these loco's is 4,400hp, that's 30,800hp..I didn't see if there were any pushing at the back, which there often are.

I love train shots and this one is great. The B&W is perfect for setting the mood.
Frank L Croston.: Thanks, Beth, I'm pleased you like it, and the b/w, I thought it suited it.

Ye gods - what a whole lot of power!!

There is a gap in Elizabeth's appreciation of what is beautiful and what is not.
Frank L Croston.: Isn't it just, Chris ! Elizabeth was off school the day they did railway appreciation class....She thinks I'm crazy, but tolerates it...smile
Seven up, just think of all that power, it must sound good, especially on an incline. I see the trucks have a double level of containers, was the whole train like that, if so it would have been very heavy.
Frank L Croston.: They sound great, Brian, very loud horns too! Though they have a ban on using them in Flagstaff, unless there are people on the tracks at the crossings, which seems to be quite often, clowns are international it seems. It is common for the whole train to be double stacked like that, also they pull car containers with two decks of cars.
That's quite a train Frank. A great sight to see
Frank L Croston.: Thanks, Janet, yes it is, I'm used to the size of these things now, but still like seeing them...( Big kid) smile
So, American locos are so inefficient, they need seven to pull a load?
Frank L Croston.: Ha, ha...You should see what they pull, Tom, you don't want to be waiting at a crossing when one is coming through!
six engines Frank... that was a long train heading for the mountains...
superb composition... i like trains... my brother a nephew and a few uncles were all railroad engineers....petersmile
Frank L Croston.: Thanks, Peter, always been a train fan, and Flagstaff is a train town alright.
Oh I think this is a really cool shot.... you make the subject look interesting! smile
Frank L Croston.: I'm not convinced....I can see your fingers crossed....smile
