Train!

Flagstaff has two rail crossings on adjacent streets, this is San francisco st. The other side of the tracks is route 66, running  parallel , these trains usually have three or four engines on the front, and one or two on the rear, sometimes none, they take app' five minutes to pass,at about thirty/forty miles an hour, you cannot believe the length of them, they never failed to impress me! Elizabeth was mystified..."It's just a train? "They are not allowed to sound their horns in the city limits, except in an emergency, when they do, it's a lovely mournful sound....

"Train"! I'll never again be able to see a train without hearing your voice in my head! I love that! I like that you kept the old Monte V sign in your crop!
Frank L Croston.: Sorry about that...smile I did get a bit excited about them. It is quite a landmark isn't it ?

This would excite & impress me - definitely!
Frank L Croston.: Good, a sign of normality, Chris...smile
I have an old train book with picture of some of the huge American trains. My favourites are the Big Boy stream Locomotives they were huge!

I would be impressed by this!!
Frank L Croston.: Ah yes, ' Big boys', they are impressive,Bill, though you have to be careful when 'Googling' them, you can get some odd results...smile
Did you forget ,you went to rob a stagecoach not a train.
Frank L Croston.: I'm not likely to mix the two up! smile
We have no trains on PEI so whenever we would go to my hometown where there are trains, my kids would be so, so excited, until they were woken in the night to the unfamiliar sounds.
Frank L Croston.: Well yes, that is a drawback,Mary, but it's surprising how you get used to it,having said that,a lot of hotel's/motels,n Flagstaff, advertise no train noise.

"lovely mournful sound...." seems a bit inappropriate for an emergency, Frank. smile
Frank L Croston.: It fits the size of these beasts though, Ray...smile
I'm no less impressed than I was when I saw this by accident the other day Frank, you must have been very impressed by their railroads, it's all so big.
Frank L Croston.: I was impressed,Brian, and the noise that four of these loco's make, close up, is great, like rolling thunder!
Were you on the right side of the tracks, Frank - or the 'other' side smile
Frank L Croston.: Ha, ha, I'm usually on the wrong side,Tom smile
