Broad tailed Hummingbirds...

Taken outside on the porch at the Renezvous cafe in Greer Arizona. I took this whilst eating a burger and fries, hence its not a great shot...

But as their wingbeats are up to seventy beats per second and they are incredibly fast, I have another excuse.

At times there were twenty or so of them feeding and zipping around. One day I'll make a serious attempt to photograph them, any excuse to eat there again...

De beaux petits oiseaux, bonne idée cette mangeoire.
Frank L Croston.: They are, they have three or four feeders outside the porch.

Wow! I have never seen 5 hummingbirds in a single shot before, Frank!
Frank L Croston.: At times there could be a dozen or so Ray, you really have to be set up and ready, I didn't want my meal to go cold !
i am no good at identifying most birds, Frank, but i certainly made out these. i like how the light partially filters through the feathers.
Frank L Croston.: Thanks Ayush, it was a bright day so that helped. Thanks.

They certainly are delightful birds Frank.
Frank L Croston.: That they are Andrew, we get them at our house as well but its difficult to photograph them where we have the feeder. I should be back at this place in a couple of weeks so must try harder !
The fact that you got them like this at all is delightful, Frank. What is it that amazes us so much about hummingbirds...that they're so small, so fast, or the combination of the two???!!!
Frank L Croston.: Well they are lovely little birds when still, I think a combination as you say Ginnie. Thanks.

Considering you were demolishing a burger and fries this a pretty good shot Frank. I would be interested in seeing another attempt sometime without the food distraction
Frank L Croston.: Hopefully I will be there again next week, I might have a serious attempt next time.

The first time I saw hummingbirds was south of Atlanta. I tried to capture them....they are fast moving little creatures. It is already a miracle you came up with this shot.... Good luck and enjoy your next meal. Frank wink
Frank L Croston.: They are incredibly fast ! Thanks Astrid,

A burger and fries? Have you become American? Please tell me you were sat there wearing baseball capo on? Its a fine shot regardless.
Frank L Croston.: Its a rare event for me Alan, no baseball cap I'm afraid...Thank you.
J'en ai vu dans le Colorado c'est vraiment un très be oiseau !
Frank L Croston.: They are so great.
All we get here are seagulls trying to nick our chips
Frank L Croston.: Not quite the same is it Bill....
Aren't they fascinating, Frank! Beautiful creatures smile
Frank L Croston.: They are, I love watching them.
I've never seen a Hummingbird I don't think, unless it was in a zoo, still worth trying it out as a shot. Did you have to get permission to have the burger and chips from she who know best, whatever I bet you enjoyed it smile
Frank L Croston.: Oh I am allowed to choose what I want, I just have to check for the disapproving look...smile
i count five hummingbirds in this frame Frank... what a magnificent photo....petersmile
Frank L Croston.: Thank you Peter, at times there must have been twenty or so of them.
Lively and always on the wing
Frank L Croston.: Amazing little creatures Martin.

GREAT capture! Can hear the flutter.
Frank L Croston.: Thank you Bonnie, they are so much fun to watch!
When you get back you can buy breakfast and photograph seagulls.
Frank L Croston.: Sounds like a plan sir ! I look forward to it. smile
Lovely luncheon entertainment, Frank. A common pastime in summers here is watching hummers. I stopped feeding them (and all birds) when some feral cats were hanging out here. tjternovan shows them often here.
Frank L Croston.: It is, they are fun to watch.
