How beautiful it is...
Frank L Croston.: In a strange way, Ray, yes.
I think they're beautiful...
(Just had to throw in a tie breaker!) smile
Actually - I do really like their forms, and once it gets completely down to the "bones" I like to look for "boots" - callus pockets where animals burrowed in and created homes!
Frank L Croston.: The skeletons are interesting indeed. ( I've had enough of reviews/tiebreakers today )

Thank you for this Frank,a question of I have pondered.

How long do they live, any idea?
Frank L Croston.: Glad to be of help Chris, ponder no more. smile My resident horticulturist tells me they live 150 to 175 years, though some have lived to 200 years. They can weigh 6 tons, and grow to 50ft in height. Interestingly if they start to lean, they grow an arm to counterbalance it, amazing!

I have indeed. I've never seen one in such decay before. Beautiful even when seen like this.
Frank L Croston.: I've never seen one like this, it was at the roadside, Elizabeth thinks it probably lost its hydration due to the roadworks.
Cela me plait bien ..merci
Frank L Croston.: Glad you do, thanks Claudine.
I have never thought about it. I thought they just lived forever grin
Frank L Croston.: Not something you would, living where you do, Bill smile

Quite extraordinary Frank, almost like a sculpture.
Frank L Croston.: Quite right Andrew, impressive things.
I agree with Chad; it does have the look of a sculpture.
Frank L Croston.: They do get used as different things, including sculptures....
Like bill I hadn't ever imagined them ending up like this.
Frank L Croston.: I was surprised too, they get used as furniture and all kinds of stuff.
Pretty weird, aren't they?
Frank L Croston.: They have a strange attraction Tom.
I cut away a whole bunch of skeleton last week on an indoor cactus. Looked just like that but smaller of course.
Frank L Croston.: They are really interesting.
