Utah highway 261. ( 2 )

It's there, and a car on it, if you can find it....This part is called the 'Moki dugway', originally built by a mining company in 1958 to transport uranium ore from the mine to be processed in Mexican hat . Not in a hat...In a place called that!

A tiny carm about to be squoshed by the rock layers... smile
Frank L Croston.: It does look that way, Larry.
Terrific shot of this rock wall, Frank!
Frank L Croston.: Thanks, Elizabeth, and thanks for taking me there!

Good grief - this whole landscape is enormous, the car looks like a toy!
Frank L Croston.: You feel very tiny, Chris....
At least there don't seem to be any potholes. It wasn't until I spotted the car that I realised there was more to the road than the bottom bit!
Frank L Croston.: For a dirt road its pretty good, Bill.

It is incredible piece of engineering. I had no idea what awaited me when I was approaching from the Natural Bridge area despite all the warning signs. I liked the way they just gave up with a tarmac road surface for the drop. Its an exciting ride; not particularly steep but the bends and the lack of barriers add to the fun. Much better than a theme park!
Frank L Croston.: The real thing is always better, Alan, it was a great experience.
I see the car, but quite a scary drive I'd imagine Frank.
Frank L Croston.: All good fun, Andrew, less scary than the M60 around Manchester at rush hour!

I have a brother studied in geology and I can just hear him, when seeing such a site. Without the car I would never have guessed there is road.
Frank L Croston.: I was amazed when we arrived at the top, its like driving up to the edge of a cliff! Which is pretty much what it is. smile
Very cool. Are they one way roads like the logging roads?
Frank L Croston.: No, two ways, Mary, you just hope nothing large is coming your way!
It looks like driving along on one of the benches in a quarry.
Frank L Croston.: Its just like that, Brian.
that is some set of switchback roads Frank... can you imagine meeting an ore truck on one of the corners....petersmile
Frank L Croston.: It is, Peter, I would not like to!
There must be falling rock notices every 100 yards on that thing! Or there ought to be!
Frank L Croston.: Nope! You just take it for granted, Tom!
the layers and layers of rocky soil is very evident here, Frank. a smashing shot!
Frank L Croston.: Thank you, Ayush, much appreciated.
